Significant effort has been invested leading up to the Mech Objects launch on Kickstarter. Here’s the stages we’ve gone through…
The idea for Mech Objects mind tools began as its founder searched for ways to maintain focus and persist through challenges during his work in engineering research and development. He was fascinated by mechanical fidget devices and felt there was room for classier designs in the market that were targeted at adults with the same need for cognitive performance.
The design process began with rough sketches based on hours of searching for inspiration for geometrical form and then adapting concepts to suit viable manufacturing processes and desirable materials. Components were then sourced and final designs were created with the necessary tolerances assigned.
Designs were initially brought to life through 3D printing using nylon. We were impressed with the results! They looked great for prototypes and allowed us to assemble our product range, test functionality and make refinements to ensure ergonomics, tactile feedback and performance were just right.
We then got feedback on the prototypes from potential users and through early sales, which informed further improvement. Results so far were great so we were ready for our first production run.
Working in close collaboration with our manufacturing partners, creating the Propel Fidget Spinner, the Domino Fidget Slider and the Classic Spinning Top using final production processes and materials was undertaken for advanced validation.
The material selected for use in the Mech Objects product range was bead-blasted 316L stainless steel due to its durability, quality feel and aesthetic appeal. To achieve the required precision, this material was machined and laser cut.
After final assembly, we were delighted to find that our initial design, prototyping and testing efforts had paid off and quality expectations had been met. Final tests showed longer spins and more satisfying slides with the premium feel we aimed for.
With the design perfected and production streamlined, we prepared marketing materials and set up our Kickstarter campaign to share our journey and product with potential backers.

Mech Objects emerged from high-tech engineering research and development.
Over the years, the founder designed mechanical components and manufactured them to high tolerance, always finding great satisfaction in seeing a mechanism come to life. After realising how fidgeting with these components encouraged a sense of calm and helped him find focus during difficult problem-solving tasks, he decided to design mechanical objects specifically for that purpose. Thus, Mech Objects was born.
We decided to create tools for the mind rather than fidget “toys”. These mind tools were envisioned to pieces of precision engineering that could be carried with pride – just like a high-end watch.
We are now bringing these ideas to life and putting our products into the world. We’re excited to hear about their impact.
